OSMOSIS AND DIFFUSION
you know that our body water is about 60 % of the total weight in the average adult?
45-55% of an older adult.
70-80% of an new born infant.
97% of the early human embryo.
fluid intake: ingested water 1200-1500mL.
ingested food 800-1100mL.
metabolic oxidation 300mL.
Total 2300-2900mL.
fluid output: kidney 1500mL.
insensible loss through skin 600-800mL.
insensible loss through lungs 400-600mL.
Gastrointestinal tract 100mL.
Total 2600-3000mL.
Now we'll look about what is Diffusion and osmosis.
Osmosis: Movement of water from low solute concentration to high solute concentration.
Diffusion: Movement of solute from high concentration to low concentration.
eg: Tea bags. When we put tea bag into a cup then tea which is inside the bag .it is a solute that comes out and mix with water which is a solvent.is a example of diffusion. from high to low concentration.
and in osmosis when we put tea bag into a cup fill with water.then water move in side the bag from low to high concentration.it is a example of osmosis.
so by this way we see that there are both things happen together at a same time when we put tea bag into a hot water cup.
I hope it is clear now difference between osmosis and diffusion. Thanks
